School of Medicine Honors Donors

Faculty, administrators, staff and students recently joined together to thank School of Medicine supporters for their continued generosity. The annual School of Medicine Donor Appreciation Luncheon honors those who have supported scholarships, research, programs and faculty development for the School of Medicine. Community physicians were also recognized during the event.

Sister Act: Scholarships Propel Sisters' Nursing Careers

School of Nursing donors were honored during an annual Donor Appreciation Luncheon. The annual event honors donors who have supported student scholarships, research, programs and faculty development for the School of Nursing. Scholarships in particular enable the school to address the nursing shortage by giving students the opportunities to pursue a nursing education. School of Nursing scholarship recipients Rebecca and Amanda Padilla began their quests to become nurses while growing up in Levelland.

Teen’s Service Project Helps Children Battling Cancer

Seventeen-year-old Dahlton Wagner shoots straight from the heart. He needed an Eagle Scout project, and the TTUHSC pediatric oncology clinic at Amarillo needed some sprucing up. On his first visit to the TTUHSC pediatric oncology clinic, Dahlton said he immediately knew this was his Eagle Scout project.

United Supermarkets Gives $3M to Endow Scholarships, Support Nursing

United Supermarkets announced a $3 million donation to the Texas Tech University System creating two new student scholarship programs at Texas Tech University and supporting a growing nursing program at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. Of this gift, $300,000 will provide operating funds for the new Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Nursing building in Abilene, Texas. System officials broke ground on the $9 million facility last month, and, according to a news release, administrators estimate that the new building will allow the school to grow from its current enrollment of 77 students to as many as 200 by the year 2015.

Mission Accomplished: James A. "Buddy" Davidson Charitable Foundation Supports Various Health Care Initiatives

Sandra Davidson and the staff of the James A. "Buddy" Davidson Charitable Foundation continue the work began by her husband more than three decades ago. Mr. Davidson gained an appreciation for nursing from his mother, who was a registered nurse. Today, the foundation that bears his name supports nursing students at TTUHSC as well as many other health care initiatives.
